Dr. Mike Barger

To compete effectively, enterprise leaders must understand the strategic plan; agree with and buy into it; know how to execute it. But strategy alone will not drive exceptional execution- something more is needed: a strong culture that can empower people to take risks without fearing failure or looking for scapegoats when things don't work out.
In this 3 - Part series, Dr. Mike Barger presents the opportunity to learn from his vast experience, offering insights of JetBlue's journey from the time he co-founded the company with his brother through creating and implement the company's core values, which still stand to this day.
Session 1. For an enterprise to be successful, it requires a strategy that makes it competitive. But strategy alone will not drive exceptional execution. To compete effectively, enterprise leaders must understand the strategic plan; agree with and buy into it; know how to execute it; and have the ability, agency, and inspiration to take action. What steps are you taking to align your enterprise leaders around your strategy to give it the best possible opportunity to succeed? This session will explore six strategy to execution barriers and what can be done to overcome them.
Session 2. How effectively does the culture at your organization align with the culture most appropriate for your strategic objectives? If you could custom-build a culture best-suited to your strategic aims, what would you create? Where would you start? JetBlue Airways designed their culture from scratch, with the goal of creating the ideal environment for delivering on their vision to bring humanity back to air travel. This session will explore how they did it and why the JetBlue culture has been vital to the company's incredible success.
Session 3. Does your organization have a set of enterprise values? Why? What purpose do they serve? Where did they come from? A great deal of research has been done on the utility and importance of clearly defined enterprise values, yet many organizations struggle to leverage them as effectively as they would like. This session will explore the importance of enterprise values, how to define them, and how to effectively weave them into the fabric of every aspect of the organization.
